Project Assistant Trainees, Project Assistants, Project Archaeologists

Edinburgh and Glasgow

£23,424 - £25,199 per annum (pay award pending)

Closing Date: 10 April 2026

Due to an expanding workload, GUARD Archaeology Ltd is looking to employ project Assistants/Archaeologists with immediate effect. The posts would be based at either our office in Glasgow or our Edinburgh Office on fixed term contracts, to be involved in projects throughout Scotland. The post(s) will require the individual(s) to undertake fieldwork and post-excavation projects, under supervision from senior archaeologists. New archaeology graduates and early career archaeologists are especially welcome to apply.

We are primarily interested in candidates with enthusiasm, strong ability, capable of working as part of a team and willing to work away from home for blocks of work as required. The successful candidates should have a degree in Archaeology. Prior fieldwork experience will be considered an advantage but is not essential for the Project Assistant Trainee posts. PCIfA membership is essential for the Project Archaeologist posts. A driving licence, while not essential, will also be considered an advantage. We offer development pathways to enable our staff to progress their archaeology career, including a CIfA approved Pathway to PCIfA Project Assistant training scheme for early career archaeologists.

These posts come with a salary range of £23,424 - £25,199 per annum (pay award pending) depending on length of experience.

Benefits of becoming a GUARD Archaeology employee include:

  • A 35-hour working week
  • 28 days leave per year (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Auto-enrolment into the company pension scheme after 3 months of continual employment
  • Transport to/from sites
  • High quality personal protective equipment
  • Accommodation and subsistence provided for away-based projects
  • Opportunities for career development
