{"id":95,"date":"2019-04-22T09:00:55","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T09:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/guard-archaeology.co.uk\/DunragitBlog\/?p=95"},"modified":"2019-04-22T09:42:34","modified_gmt":"2019-04-22T09:42:34","slug":"initiation-of-post-excavation-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.guard-archaeology.co.uk\/DunragitBlog\/?p=95","title":{"rendered":"Initiation of post-excavation works"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following the preparation of the interim report, a Post-Excavation\nResearch Design was prepared that lays out the key questions we hope to answer\nand which identifies the various types of specialist analysis required to\nanswer these questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objective of the post-excavation work is to extract the\nfull extent of information and provide as much knowledge as possible from the\nmaterial recovered from the excavation phase. This new information will be\nassessed in line with current research objectives and will result in the creation\nof a permanent record within the public domain, of all the archaeology encountered\nalong the route of the A75 Dunragit Bypass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is no easy task as an enormous amount of archaeological\nmaterial and information spanning some 7000 years of prehistory was recovered. The\nteam of GUARD Archaeologists and various specialists will work closely with an\nacademic expert from the University of Glasgow in accordance with the research\ngoals of this project and the Scottish Archaeological Research Framework <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aims of the Dunragit\npost-excavation research are to understand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>the relevance of the site to the understanding of the earliest\nsettlement in the south-west of Scotland;<\/li><li>the relevance of the site to the understanding of the belief systems\nin the south-west of Scotland;<\/li><li>the natural landscape around the site and environmental and\nman-made changes that took place within it; and<\/li><li>how environmental factors have affected the location and viability\nof settlement across the area.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nWe are excited to announce that post-excavation work\nbegan in October 2018.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following the preparation of the interim report, a Post-Excavation Research Design was prepared that lays out the key questions we hope to answer and which identifies the various types of specialist analysis required to answer these questions.
