Between September and the end of November 2012 GUARD Archaeology staff worked alongside local volunteers to complete an HLF funded archaeological survey of the remains of the 15th century Collegiate Church in the graveyard of Kilmun Church near Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll. The work included a limited excavation within the ground floor of the tower to remove recent debris, a topographic survey of the graveyard to record the location of all visible grave stones including an early Christian cross slab and several medieval slabs, a standing building survey of the medieval tower and a geophysical survey of the graveyard. The geophysics identified several anomalies including a possible early boundary for the graveyard. The results of this community project, for the Benmore and Kilmun Community Development Trust and Argyll Mausoleum Ltd, will provide a useful resource for future management and maintenance of this important site and further work.
